The first appointment is very different to a usual dental check-up and clean, starting with a postural assessment, examining breathing patterns and lip seal to gain clues about how efficiently and effectively airways are working. In children, these factors can be linked to proper growth of the face and airways and can help prevent problems with attention, head-forward posture, higher risk of tooth decay and dental crowding. If needed, the practice takes CBCT imaging to measure airways and may refer patients to a team of health professionals, with education resources covering splotchy teeth, gum disease and diabetes, mouth breathing, snoring in adults, face and jaw growth, face and jaw pain and recovery after tonsillectomy.
